It is good to be Mac in Prague.

The iPhone comes with a great number of built-in international keyboards. I will be discussing how to first turn on and then how to use the Czech keyboard. The great thing is that Apple made this easier than ever, and I hope they learn to make the Apple computer equivalents as easy to use (please see my previous article: Writing in Czech on your Mac). I don't want to waste your precious time, so here we go:

After a few false starts I was able to update the fireware on my Garmin Forerunner 405 on my MacBook Pro. Since the process was a little difficult to navigate, or more specifically, since it was difficult finding the starting point, I decided to write up my steps in a list.

The latest version of the firmware is 2.3 and boasts changes such as updated translations, increased log accuracy, navigation upgrades, bezel accuracy, and numerous other enhancements.

As a Drupal developer and Mac fanatic, I find myself frequently entering scripts into textareas in Safari. I also like my code to be well formatted with the proper amount of tabs for indents. If you found this post than you probably are also frustrated with the fact that the tab key is reserved for switching focus between onscreen widgets. Two or Four spaces is a common alternative to the tab for scripting, but once I start counting to 12 while pushing the space bar, I get a little antsy. So today I put on the hardhat and did a little experimenting on how to create a tab in Safari.

Garmin finally released Mac support for their Garmin ANT USB Stick. I have had my Garmin Forerunner 405 for sometime and have been eagerly awaiting this. I decided that I would also write down the steps it took to get my watch to sync with the computer and to use it with Garmin Connect.

My last post was about the importance of a proper backup and how you should perform this using time machine while encrypting your user account with filevault. Which was a little bit foresighted, because I soon afterwords had my machine go tits up on me.

I am an adamant believer that we are living in the age of information. The knowledge that we collect and protect is now one of the biggest measures of our worth. This post is about the latter matter of protecting the data that you have either created or collected on your computer, specifically your Apple computer. This protection takes two forms: one is protecting the integrity of your data; and the second is protecting your data from prying eyes.

A good friend of mine, and a an Apple mastermind, just started a new blog: CrownedUp.com, with the tagline reading: 'because we like to know'. I have a couple things to say about this. Number one: I love the name and wish that it was mine. And number two: I have used, to some great success, many of the suggestions posted on the blog thus far.

Most, but not all, of the posts on the site have something to do with hacking a mac or mac related technologies. I consider myself somewhat of a white hat mac hack, and thus have subscribed to the RSS feed on the front page.
