Garmin 405 - Help my Lap Database is Full

For the last two weeks, my Garmin 405 has been warning me, "That the lap database is full, and that old data will be erased." This message would appear at the completion of every 1 mile lap, in a message window that nearly covers the entire screen. I was a little annoyed at the warning, but was fine with the automatic deletion of old laps since I daily upload to Garmin Connect. But I was wrong, You have to deal with this ASAP to maintain data integrity!

Garmin Forerunner 405 Firmware Update

After a few false starts I was able to update the fireware on my Garmin Forerunner 405 on my MacBook Pro. Since the process was a little difficult to navigate, or more specifically, since it was difficult finding the starting point, I decided to write up my steps in a list.

The latest version of the firmware is 2.3 and boasts changes such as updated translations, increased log accuracy, navigation upgrades, bezel accuracy, and numerous other enhancements.

Connect your Mac and your Garmin 405

Garmin finally released Mac support for their Garmin ANT USB Stick. I have had my Garmin Forerunner 405 for sometime and have been eagerly awaiting this. I decided that I would also write down the steps it took to get my watch to sync with the computer and to use it with Garmin Connect.

Calculating your Maximum Heart Rate

Your maximum heart rate (MHR) is the highest number of times your heart can contract in one minute, or the heart rate that you could achieve during maximal physical exertion. It is not the maximum you should obtain often during exercise. MHR is used as a base number to calculate target heart rate for exercise.
